Sri M.M.Murugappan

The chairman of the trust, he is currently the joint managing director of Carborundum Universal Ltd. A chemical engineer from the University of Ann Arbor, Michigan USA, he is a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers of both the United States and India. He has had experience working in industrial waste treatment and air pollution control in the USA and in India. He is a member of the Murugappa Group's Supervisory Board Responsible for Technology and Research. Being keenly interested in Yoga and traditional Indian scientific systems, he plays a very supportive role in many of our activities.

 

Mr. Darshan Shankar

Executive Director of the Foundation for the Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions [FRLHT] based at Bangalore.Darshan Shankar is a pioneer in the area of traditional medicine and has been the inspiration behind several efforts to strengthen indigenous health traditions. Currently he is implementing the country's largest effort for the conservation of medicinal plants. He received the Norman Borlaug award in1998 for his work. In 2003, the Columbia University's Centre for Complementary & Alternative Medicines gave its first International Award to Darshan Shankar & FRLHT, in recognition of FRLHT's outstanding contributions to revitalization of traditional systems of health-care in India. The Rotary Club of Bangalore has chosen Darshan for the 'CITIZEN EXTRAORDINAIRE' award 2006. It is for individuals who have made singular contributions to society, and have enhanced the lives of people around them, and the image of the city of Bangalore, while setting examples and ideals for others to emulate.

 

Mr. P.R Krishnakumar

Executive Director of the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy based in Coimbatore. He also started AVREFA (Arya Vaidyan Rama Warriers Educational Foundation for Ayurveda) which runs a major Ayurveda hospital at Coimbatore. In the 1980's, he started an Ayurvedic college at Patanjalipuram near Coimbatore, which was run on the Gurukula pattern. It has produced a distinguished crop of students, many of whom are also involved in various efforts to strengthen and revitalize traditional medicine.

 

Dr. Ashok Jhunjunwala

Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT,Chennai. His laboratory is one of the world leaders in the area of wireless telecommunication. He has played a pioneering role in developing telecom and Internet technologies in the country. Deeply committed to development based on indigenous talent, skills and resources, he is also a founder trustee and treasurer of the PPST foundation (Patriotic and People-Oriented Science and Technology Foundation). Prof.Jhunjunwala is also interested in research and training in traditional Indian mathematics. He is the recipient of the Padma Shri for his work in telecommunications in rural areas. He has been awarded Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1998, Dr.Vikram Sarabhai Research Award for the year 1997, Millennium Medal at Indian Science Congress in the year 2000 and H. K. Firodia for "Excellence in Science & Technology" for the year 2002, Shri Om Prakash Bhasin Foundation Award for Science & Technology for the year 2004, Awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Lecture Award by INSA for the year 2006 and IBM Innovation and Leadership Forum Award by IBM for the year 2006. He is a Fellow of INAE, IAS, INSA and NAS.

Dr. Jhunjhunwala is a Director in the Board of SBI. He is also a Board member of several companies in India, including TTML, BEL, Polaris, 3i Infotech, Sasken, Tejas, NRDC, and IDRBT. He is member of Prime Minister's Setup Scientific Advisory Committee

 

Dr. Latha Satheesh

Is on the faculty in the Department of Psychology at Madras University. She has been involved in teaching and research with a special interest in the use of Yoga and lifestyle to improve one's health.
